My Sister Liv Explores Teen Depression and Suicide

| Burlington County Library

Question-and-Answer Session follows Movie Screening

Mark your calendar for two special screenings this month of My Sister Liv, a powerful documentary that shines a light on the pressures of social media, teen depression and suicide. The film, which will be presented at Pemberton Library on Tuesday, June 20 and again at Burlington County Library on Wednesday, June 21, features Tess and Liv who are inseparable from a young age, and Tess’ desperate struggle to save her little sister. Tess and Honey, their mother, will attend both 6 pm screenings to discuss the film and answer questions.

My Sister Liv is brought to us by Grammy award-winning filmmaker Alan Hicks and film producer Paula DuPré Pesmen. Through fearless storytelling, it looks at the realities of stigma, the struggles of mental health and the aftermath of suicide for the survivors left behind. As a family learns to cope with their new normal, they find hope by talking about mental health to save young lives.

According to The Liv Project website:

Liv was a passionate friend, animal lover, gifted vocalist, comedian and proud member of the LGBTQ community, and her kindness knew no bounds – except when it came to herself. Liv struggled most of her life with a nonverbal learning disorder, anxiety and depression, and she often found it hard to reach out when she was struggling. On Jan. 8, 2019, 19-year-old Liv took her own life. Tess and Honey hope that in sharing her story and developing creative tools and programs in her name, they can help unlock the fearless conversations that can save lives.
