National Bad Poetry Day

| Burlington County Library

Bad Poetry Day is all about having fun and there are different ways to enjoy it. Writing bad poetry is the most common way to celebrate, but be warned, that can be harder than it sounds. Want some examples? Writers and non-writers share their hilarious creations on Twitter and other social media using hashtags such as #badpoetryday. But even if you don’t have a Twitter account, bad poetry is fun for everyone - and it says more about poetry than most manuals or guides. Why not gather your family for your own bad poetry open mic night? Or just head to  your favorite BCLS location to check out our collection of poetry books to get some ideas about what not to do when writing bad poetry.

Perhaps the best way to enjoy poetry of any kind is reading it aloud or listening to it. You can download Libby to your phone or tablet for easy access to ebooks and audiobooks. Listen to poetry on your way to drop the kids off at school, or while cooking or cleaning the house. Poetry can achieve wonders and get your rebel spirit started. Remember, make it bad, make it fun, but go ahead and make it! Here’s a list of recommended reads for the whole family:
