Celebrate Besties on National Best Friends Day

| Pemberton Library

Is there anything better than having a best friend? Best friends are our partners in crime, our shoulders to cry on, and the first ones we call for super cool adventures. On June 8, celebrate National Best Friends Day with your bestie by checking out some books and movies about famous friendships. From Bert and Ernie, to Sherlock and Watson, best friends make for the best stories.

When we think of best friends in books, we often think of Harry, Ron and Hermione, but before those wizarding pals there were Merry and Pippin, the Hobbit besties, and Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, who got into lots of mischief together. Elizabeth Bennett may have had her sisters, but Charlotte Lucas was the first one she turned to when she needed to talk in Pride and Prejudice. And Anne Shirley’s adventures at Green Gables would be much less lively without her bosom buddy Diana Barry. But no one reminds us more of how important best friends are in our lives than good ol’ Winnie the Pooh and his best bud Piglet. Christopher Robin would be very bored without those pals.
