This month's book selection is Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie.

After caring for her younger twin siblings, Aneeka and Parvaiz, in the years following their mother's death, Isma is finally able focus on her studies and to pursue her dreams in America. Yet, she still worries about the twins, who reside in Britain, and their safety—especially after Parvaiz disappears to follow in his deceased father's footsteps by joining a militant group in Syria. When he realizes the mistake he made, his sisters make an effort to bring him back home with the help of Eamonn, the son of a prominent political figure. A reimagining of Sophocles' play Antigone, this poignant story brings to light the sacrifices we are willing to make for those we love, and the struggles faced by immigrants to preserve their cultural identity.

Our book selections cover all genres and take member input into consideration. During each six month period, we discuss at least one nonfiction book and one classic book. We engage in a guided discussion of the book, using questions provided by a librarian. This book club is best suited for adults, but all are welcome to join.
