Students work while in the classroom

World Teachers Day

| Pemberton Library

You never forget your favorite teachers! There’s even a special day for the whole world to honor them. Since 1994, World Teachers’ Day, observed each year on Oct. 5, celebrates educators on a global scale.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which exists to build peace through international cooperation in education, sciences and culture, recognizes the need for the global support of teachers. Each year, in partnership with other organizations, UNESCO puts a spotlight on World Teachers’ Day to encourage countries to better assist teachers with resources and the protection of their rights.
