This event will be presented by educator, author, and advocate Arlene Marie Karole. Arlene (FACHE, CHCP, CMP, MSA) is a passionate, inspired, and outspoken healthcare leader dedicated to sharing her carefully developed strategies for patient advocacy, survivorship, and patient engagement wherever she sees a need. As a cancer survivor and thriver, Arlene began navigating the early stages of her diagnosis. After voluminous research, numerous consultations with doctors, and discussions with friends, she realized that, as patients, we have choices regarding our attitude, approach, and healthcare decisions. No matter your unique diagnosis, stage of breast cancer, stage of life, or gender (men get breast cancer, too)—it was through this journey she published Just Diagnosed: Breast Cancer, which is designed to teach, inspire, and empower.
In this presentation, Arlene will employ incredible candor, a great deal of vulnerability, and humor as she shares resources, checklists, and definitions designed as a road map to help navigate and get you through a breast cancer diagnosis. She will also touch upon the importance of the patient-provider partnership, encouraging active collaboration between the patient, family, and their providers.
The presentation also defines the benefits of patient-centered health care and shared decision-making (SDM) and the importance of patients being proactive in their care. Arlene’s call to action: We are patients, and we are consumers. We want to live our best lives—taking ownership and responsibility for our health, wellness, and well-being—mind, body, spirit, and soul—a comprehensive, holistic whole-person approach makes this possible.
