It’s been more than two years since HBO promised the release of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. Guess what, fans! The wait is over. Winter is finally coming to Westeros in April. With a budget of $15 million per feature-length episode, you can bet the final season will be epic.

If you haven’t seen the show, or if you need to refresh your memory before the newest season airs, you don’t need a big budget at all. In fact, all you need is your library card to reserve and borrow every episode of every season from BCLS.

This is also a great time to read or re-read the books. Author George R. R. Martin has promised fans that A Song of Ice and Fire, the epic fantasy series that inspired the show, will be a seven-book series. Unfortunately, only five of the books have been published, and Martin has not released a publication date for the sixth and seventh books.

If you’ve already completed the novels, you can learn about the history of House Targaryen in Martin’s newest release, Fire and Blood. It’s the first of a two-part series that focuses on the last remaining family of dragonlords. The World of Ice and Fire is another great book that’s loaded with history and previously unpublished facts about Westeros. Check out the graphic novels for even more content that you won’t find in the show or novels.

If you enjoy the writing style of George R. R. Martin and you’re looking for something to pass the time while you wait for the return of GoT, check out one of his other titles:
