After a fun summer spent reading and celebrating all things in our solar system, BCLS is blasting back to Earth in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…!
This year, BCLS challenged children in Burlington County to read a total of 50,000 books during the designated eight weeks of the annual Summer Reading program. Not only did they reach the goal before the eight weeks were up, but they surpassed it, logging a total of 54,095 books and completing 10,869 challenges! In the process, they earned a fun reward – the chance to see the faces of some of their favorite Youth Services Librarians covered in pie!

The Summer Reading theme A Universe of Stories made it possible for Youth Services staff to host out-of-this-world events for all ages, making it a memorable summer for everyone! With the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing on July 20, the spotlight was on our solar system and beyond as we studied constellations, hunted for missing planets, and even flew rocket ships all summer long.
An unforgettable time was had by all as kids Blasted Off into Reading or traveled to distant planets during the SPACEtacular Musical Adventure with Two of a Kind, witnessed Ran’D Shine blow our minds with his Hocus Pocus Magic Show, got to know different animals and plants of the pines with Rancocas Nature Center, and even got up close and personal with Insectropolis’ Bugs on the Go!
Just because Summer Reading is over doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Programs and special events happen all year at your favorite location! Beanstack is also available to track reading and participate in other challenges throughout the year.
