OMG, It’s NaNoWriMo!
You should write a novel this November. Hard, you say? Not so fast!
NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it’s an innovative, creative writing project that has been taking place every November since 1999. Participants sign up – for free – on the NaNoWriMo site and attempt to write a 50,000 word manuscript. (That’s only 1,667 words a day!) You join a community of writers also participating in the challenge. The interactive website lets you download your manuscript in excerpts, supplies word counts, offers pep talks from well-known writers, and answers all the questions you have about completing your novel.
Most importantly, NaNoWriMo creates a writing habit. If you have a story to tell, if you like to write, if you’ve just been waiting for that one push that’s going to make you sit at your computer, start typing and say, “the journey begins…,” now is the time.
Some of your favorite books were written during NaNoWriMo. Check them out for inspiration. You can also find some novel writing advice from the greats and some pep talks to start your writing adventure.
