16th Annual MLK Jr. Day Challenge

| Burlington County Library

This year, BCLS invites you to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In partnership with the Volunteer Center of Burlington County, we will host the 16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Challenge on Monday, Jan. 17 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Burlington County Library.

Observed each year on the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service. Once again, Burlington County residents are encouraged to join thousands of Americans across the country honoring Dr. King’s memory by participating in service projects in their communities. Together, we will remember his legacy of tolerance, peace and equality by making the holiday “a day on, not a day off.”

Food donations and other personal items will be collected in the library parking lot (5 Pioneer Blvd., Westampton) to benefit three worthy organizations:

  • Oaks Integrated Care Food Pantry of Mount Holly, which is accepting a variety of food donations, including breakfast items, kid-friendly snacks, canned meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, and microwavable meals, such as Easy Mac and Chef Boyardee.

  • Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey, which supports United States military forces and is accepting a wide array of food donations and personal items, including breakfast bars, energy drinks, tea and ground coffee, powdered drink mixes, bagged tuna and chicken, snacks, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, tissues, baby powder and wipes, batteries, crossword books, shampoo and conditioner and more.

  • Burlington County Animal Shelter, which is accepting dog food, cat food, pet toys, cat litter, hand soap and hand sanitizer, bleach, laundry detergent, towels, blankets, sheets and pillow cases, paper towels, brooms and scrub brushes and more.
