BCLS PRESENTS “THE MALTESE FALCON RADIO SHOW” LIVE ON STAGE
Tickets Now Available for the Nov. 12-13 Shows in the County Library Auditorium
You’ve read the book. You’ve seen the movie. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy the LUX Radio Theatre version of “The Maltese Falcon” presented live at the Burlington County Library this fall!
As part of the Burlington County Library System’s NEA Big Read celebration, the Bridge Players Theatre Company will present three exciting performances of the classic radio show that aired in 1942. The performances are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. and again at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at the County Library in Westampton. Tickets cost $5 each and are available at all BCLS branches.
A cultural phenomenon, LUX Radio Theatre starred the finest of Hollywood’s elite players in adaptions of popular movies. The upcoming library theatre performances are based on the 1941 film starring Humphrey Bogart and directed by John Huston in his directorial debut. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards.
The Maltese Falcon radio shows will cap the library system’s seven-week series of special performances, book discussions, film screenings and more focusing on Dashiell Hammett’s thrilling and classic detective tale.
Published in 1930, Hammett’s third novel featured private detective Sam Spade and set the standard by which all subsequent detective fiction would be judged. With clean prose and sharp dialogue, the book that offers plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader flipping pages and searching for clues has captivated three generations.
In addition to the upcoming radio show performances, BCLS is also excited to host two presentations by Dashiell Hammett’s granddaughter Julie Rivett in the County Library auditorium: “From Pulps to Pop Culture: The Literature and Legacy of Dashiell Hammett” on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m., and “Why Read The Maltese Falcon?” on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. Admission to both programs is free, but registration is required.
