Boneyarn: An Evening with Poet David Mills (Virtual)
David Mills is the author of the bestselling poetry collection Boneyarn. His poetry tells the story of slavery in New York City, the location of the oldest and largest slave cemetery in the United States. When the cemetery was discovered, the remains of 419 bodies were found. Only one was found with their whole name.
Inspired by the words of Jupiter Hammon, who was enslaved in New York and the first Black poet published in Colonial America, Mr. Mills promises to deliver a thought-provoking event. His work has been said to be a "monument to the 15,000 enslaved bodies buried in New York City’s African Cemetery. It is a work that required tears to write and tears to read." The poetry of Mr. Mills will be an inspiration to delve deeper into the circumstances and lives buried steps away from the riches of Wall Street.
