For the uninitiated, Doctor Who follows the journeys of the Doctor and his companion through time and space; the Doctor is a Time Lord that travels in a time machine (called the TARDIS, for Time and Relative Dimension in Space) disguised as a blue British police box.  Every few seasons or so the Doctor regenerates into a new form (portrayed by a new actor) and his companions come and go.

One tradition of Doctor Who is the Christmas special, which has aired every year on Christmas day since 2005's The Christmas Invasion, in which David Tennant made his first full-episode appearance as the Tenth Doctor.
