Have you heard about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?

It’s a fun program designed to promote early literacy and parent/child bonding through reading! Any book your newborn, infant or toddler hears counts towards their 1,000 books. This means that in addition to being read to by family and friends, attending library story times and other reading programs count toward the goal. You can even read the same books over and over again.

We launched this exciting program last January and we’re happy to report it has been a success! During our first year, 18 participants reached their goal of 1,000 books! The highest number of books logged is more than twice the goal - 2,008 books and counting.

Now it’s time to celebrate. This month, we’ll be hosting 1KBBK anniversary parties throughout the system. Children ages 5 and younger are invited to join us on a sing-a-long journey with Kim Yarson and her guitar. (Please check our online calendar to find out when the party is planned at your library.) Whether you’re just beginning the program, have already read 1,000 books or are somewhere in between, we look forward to seeing your there!

In the meantime, be sure to check out our growing 1KBBK collection for titles recommended by our librarians and keep logging your books on Beanstack. Happy reading!
