Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is a longstanding celebration dating back to medieval Europe. However, it wasn't until 1703 that the first-ever Mari Gras was celebrated in America. And while Mardi Gras is observed all over, New Orleans has made it its main event!

In New Orleans, Mardi Gras is filled with parades featuring giant, vibrant floats and colorful costumes. Beads are thrown and a dessert called King Cakes is eaten! New Orleans takes pride in this event and even though it won't look quite the same this year, here are some books and movies you can enjoy to celebrate this tradition and this amazing city:
