AUTHORS SUSAN ARPAJIAN JOLLEY AND ALLAN ARPAJIAN
DISCUSS THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
Burlington County Library “Community Stories” Program Set for April 12
Siblings Susan Arpajian Jolley and Allan Arpajian will discuss the Armenian Genocide and its impact on their family, especially their aunt, artist Mary Zakarian, during a special presentation in the Burlington County Library Auditorium in Westampton on April 12, 6:30 p.m.
Co-authors of “Out of My Great Sorrows: The Armenian Genocide and Artist Mary Zakarian,” they will also share original artwork with the audience in honor of Genocide Awareness Month.
Zakarian was an active artist and teacher in the Philadelphia area for more than 50 years. She studied at Moore College of Art and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, exhibited her paintings in both Armenian and non-Armenian venues from 1960 to 2000, and founded the Zakarian School of Art in 1971. She believed the greatest influence on her life and work was the experience of her mother, a survivor of the 1915 Genocide.
The April 12 presentation is part of the library’s popular Community Stories program, an engaging series of personal tales and life journeys from fascinating residents of Burlington County.
A longtime Delran resident, Susan Arpajian Jolley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. She retired in 2013 after a long career teaching high school English in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, most recently at Delran High School.
A resident of Huntingdon Valley, Allan Arpajian earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in musicology from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Arcadia University. He retired from a career as a computer analyst for Unisys Corporation in 2009.
Copies of "Out of My Great Sorrows: The Armenian Genocide and Artist Mary Zakarian,” will be available for sale during the program. Registration is requested.
