BCLS AND U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY OFFER BOATING SAFETY COURSES
Classes Available May through October at Library Branches
The Burlington County Library System is teaming up with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer Boating Safety Certification Courses at six library branches from late May through early October.
All boaters and personal watercraft operators are required to have a boating safety certificate issued by the New Jersey State Police on board while navigating New Jersey waterways. Approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, this eight-hour course will cover “must-know” topics and the fee is $65. (Note: mention “Burlington County Library System” when registering and receive a 20 percent discount.)
Each registrant will receive a student workbook and handouts, and the course will include lectures and testing to meet New Jersey State requirements. Topics will include: things to know before leaving the dock; basic navigation; required equipment; trailering; federal and state legal requirements; and boating emergencies. Upon successful completion of the course, a temporary certificate will be awarded and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will process the required New Jersey State Police paperwork on behalf of each student.
The course will be offered at:
• Evesham Library - May 23, 24, 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Maple Shade Library - June 2, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and June 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Pinelands Library - July 11, 18, 25, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Cinnaminson Library - Aug. 17, 24, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
