When terrible things happen, we turn to others, history and the media for answers. The current events happening in our society force us to look to our governments and law enforcement with new eyes. This can lead to uncertainty and be frightening for young people to understand. We're here to help with a booklist just for kids. Parents and families can read or listen to these stories together before discussing what's going on in our world.

In this collection of stories, each protagonist is affected by senseless violence in some way, whether by a gun or bullying by peers and otherwise respected adults. The authors give insight to what it would be like to encounter such violence, either by witnessing it firsthand or mourning a loved one whose life ended because of it. For many people, these stories won't be unbelievable, but identifiable.
