Book:"Between Friends Craft Projects to Share" by Charlotte Lyons ( )
Summary:This is a great book to encourage you and your friends to begin to craft together. The book has lots of easy crafts and the author tells you how long each craft will take and supplies needed. Throughout the book are little stories about how craft time developed between friends. There are lots of ideas and great illustrations of each project. Lots of things to think about for the colder winter months!

This practice saves time for the author at book signings, but it is boring and tedious since the author usually only signs their name. In fact I really felt that way until about three quarters of the way through. Harry is of course accompanied by his best friends Ron and Hermoine, as well as adding on an almost love interest, Cho. He is a teenager by now, after all. There's a character you'll love to hate, Dolores Umbridge, who makes life miserable for everyone at Hogwart's. The story is told from the point of view of Sophie Hatter, the eldest of three daughters. It is a something of a Cinderella tale, the girls' father has passed away, the stepmother is arranging stable futures for each of the girls, Sophie is to work in the family hat shop. Until the Witch of the West casts a spell on Sophie, transforming her into an old woman. But old is not necessarily frail or feeble-minded as we see in Sophie's case. Book:Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini ( )
Summary:The Kite Runner will whisk you away to a setting that you may know nothing about. Afghanstan has only recently entered the mainstream world and even then what we know is controlled by Big Media. I picture the country against a back-drop of majestic mountains. I see a culture that has culminated from years of tug and pull from the Arabs/Persians on the west and the Indians to the east. This book won't give you a tour of the country's political, cultural or historic landscape. It will, however, give you a story that is shaped by all three. And, aren't all our stories shaped by events that are so removed from us but create a lasting repository. Amir's story is on two levels. On a personal level, it's about his relationship to a young servant in the household. It's about his manipulation of this relationship. And finally, it's about Amir facing the long years of guilt brought on by an event from his childhood involving the servant. On another level, we see Amir as a product of being an Afghan. An Afghan being flung around like a kite by the British, the Soviets, the Taliban and now the Americans. Don't hold my kite imagery to just that. There's more to kite flying in this story. Read on to find out.

Summary: This is a true story of a boy whose life was disrupted and changed by a psychotic mother, a father who was devoid of emotion, and a manipulative psychiatrist. He came from a dysfunctional homelife with a battling, uncaring father and a high-strung, emotionally disfunctional mother. His mother came under the power of a strange and manipulative pyschiatrist who convinced her that her son would be better living with him and his strange family. There are no rules, only disorder, filth, and the strangest group of people living together that you would NEVER want to meet. At the boy's (Augusteen) new home he begins his journey into homosexuality with a man 3x his age. Augusteen doesn't attend school unless he wants to and the doctor dispenses Valium and other meds to his family like it is candy. This is and interesting though strange book. Summary:This is an autobiography from John Denver. His music has been a large part of my childhood (and now adulthood) as my parents were both very big fans of his. His death in 1996 was not only sudden and very sad, but left a large gap in the environmental circles he strode in. The book tells of how he became the music icon he was and how his personal interests in the environment were developed. He does not hide any of problems that were common in both of his marriages. It is a good mix of family history, professional development and personal views. It is sort of laid out chronologically - he tends to jump back and forth as he visits memories that brought him to a certain point in life or shaped a view he had. Anyone who is or has been a fan of his should read this, as well as those who hold strong environmental views.
