Growing up there seemed to be westerns on our one and only television regularly and usually they starred either The Duke (for you younger folk that’s John Wayne), Lee Marvin or Clint Eastwood.   Now I have no memory of actually watching these movies, but just by being in the vicinity of them they burrowed right into my subconscious it seems making me think western films are mighty gosh darn cool.  What makes western films so great you may ask?  Maybe it’s the scenery with those wide-open spaces, cacti, buttes, canyons, and mesas that look so different from our native land of Jersey.  Maybe it’s the grit, the guts, the codes of honor, and the passion for justice characteristics portrayed by these knights in not-so-shining armor.  And let’s not forget the fair maidens or damsels in distress that also grace the screen, who possess those very same characteristics mentioned above.  So, Belly up to your DVD player and pop in some rootin’ tootin’ good films depicting America’s Old West; yeehaw!
