FRIENDS OF THE PEMBERTON COMMUNITY LIBRARY AWARDED $2,500
Grant Helps Fund New Early Literacy Computer at Pemberton Library

Stop by the Pemberton Library to check out the new AWE Early Literacy Station (ELS) recently installed in the children’s room thanks to a generous grant given to The Friends of the Pemberton Community Library.

Awarded by the FirstEnergy Foundation, an arm of the FirstEnergy Corp., known locally as Jersey Central Power & Light, the $2,500 grant helped fund the new ELS that was installed at the library in September. A second computer station, purchased by the Burlington County Library System, also was installed at that time.

Designed to help provide a kid-friendly, safe learning environment, the new early literacy stations feature more than 70 preloaded educational games with a touchscreen game-play option for children ages 2 to 12, a color-coded keyboard for building computer literacy, and a small, color-coded mouse designed just for kids.

In applying for the grant, the Friends group appealed to the FirstEnergy Foundation’s focus “to advance an educated workforce by supporting STEM initiatives.” Many of the games incorporate STEM-based activities, which complement the focus of the FirstEnergy Foundation’s program.
