Daniel Mainwaring wrote his final and oft considered best novel under the pseudonym Geoffrey Homes, Build My Gallows High, this novel was to become the film Out of the Past. The screenplay, also written by Daniel Mainwaring, is a film-noir thriller starring the phenomenal Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, and Kirk Douglas. This movie has both a dark storyline and dark cinematography as well as offering up the classic femme fatale. Out of the Past is widely considered to be one of the best film-noir movies of all time.
