The 1944 crime, film-noir thriller directed by Billy Wilder, who also wrote the screenplay with Raymond Chandler, stars Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. Based on a James Cain novel of the same name, which is based on the true 1920 murder where Ruth Snyder convinced her boyfriend to kill her husband.  In 1992, Double Indemnity was selected for preservation in the National Film Society. .
