The murder of Mrs. Mary Hamilton of Bordentown by Joel Clough in 1833 quickly became the most followed story of the day. Clough murdered Mrs. Hamilton in a rage fueled by unrequited love.  His trial and execution were most sensational, attracting thousands of visitors. In the end, Joel Clough was buried in the courtyard of the Burlington County Prison and is said to still remain there. Come hear the story of Joel Clough and Mrs. Mary Hamilton’s relationship, the crime, and aftermath as related in Clough’s own confession.
