Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), wrote numerous imaginative stories and poems that explored the supernatural, and articulated a shadowed landscape between sanity and madness, death and life. Many of his works, such as the poem "The Raven," have become influential classics of American literature that still resound today. In this reading group, we will discuss individual short stories, examining recurring themes in Poe’s work, as well as plot, characterization, narrative viewpoint, prose style, and unity of effect.
