Bridge Players Theatre Company proudly announces the performance of the moving and celebratory play by Regina Taylor of I’ll Fly Away fame, hats become the springboard for an exploration of black history and identity, as seen through the eyes of Yolanda, a standoffish young black woman who has come to the South to stay with her grandmother after her brother is killed in Brooklyn.  There is a hat for every occasion, from flirting to churchgoing to funerals to baptisms, and the tradition of hats is traced back to African rituals and slavery and through the New Testament and current fashion. Through dialogue and rousing renditions of classic gospel songs, the play follows Yolanda’s journey as she learns to embrace hats and their cultural significance as part of her own fiercely independent identity.

Tickets may be purchased for $5 at the County Library Headquarters in Westampton.
