  • Mount Holly
Community Room

Nathan Dunn, a Mount Holly resident who lived across the street from the Lyceum, was among the first Americans to trade in Qing dynasty China starting in 1818. He became almost a legend, in fact, with his story becoming part of China's expansionist foreign policy. Once his wealth was earned, he not only contributed locally, but became a Chinese ambassador, to a certain degree to the world, teaching the public what life was like in the prohibited interior areas of China.
