Burlington County Library Honors Our Veterans
Donate Items to Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst Service Members Nov. 7-21
Visit Mobile Military Memorial Museum and Make Thank You Cards Nov. 11
In honor of our veterans and the military, the Burlington County Library is collecting items for Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst service members deployed oversees and those recuperating in area facilities from Saturday, Nov. 7 to Saturday, Nov. 21.
The goal of Operation Santa’s Elves is to fill small shoeboxes with basic items, including toiletries and snacks, to help our troops get through the harsh terrain of a desert deployment, and to cheer our wounded warriors.
The following items may be dropped off at the County Library on Pioneer Boulevard in Westampton from Nov. 7 to Nov. 21 during library hours:
• Toiletries, including lip balm, sun block, moist wipes (preferably unscented), bars of soap, non-aerosol bug spray, small bottles of liquid body soap, small bottles of shampoo, aftershave lotion, body powder, razors, and non-aerosol deodorant.
• Food, including candy, gum, small boxes of cereal, packets of instant oatmeal, powdered drink mix, cereal/snack/granola bars, small pop-top cans of fruit, packets of hot chocolate mix, individual packs of trail mix, nuts, pretzels, and cookies.
• Miscellaneous, including athletic socks, batteries of all sizes, playing cards, puzzle books, stationary supplies (writing paper, notecards, pens, etc.), ribbons and bows, greeting cards, and clean shoeboxes.
The Burlington County Library will also welcome a visit by the mobile Veteran’s United Military Memorial Museum in the library parking lot on Wednesday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day. The public is invited to tour the museum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and explore its varied collection of fascinating memorabilia of American military history, including patches, uniforms, weapons and radios. (For more information about the museum, go to http://vummm.org)
Visitors are also encouraged to show their appreciation for our local veterans by participating in the library’s annual Thank You Veterans Card Making Program, also scheduled to be held on Nov. 11. Stop by the library’s Youth Services Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make a card that will be delivered to a veteran. Supplies provided. All ages welcome.
The Burlington County Library is located on Pioneer Boulevard off Woodlane Road in Westampton. For more information about the Burlington County Library’s veterans’ programs, call (609) 267-9660.
