Policy: Literature & Bulletin Board
In keeping with the library's role as a primary source for civic, cultural,
educational, and recreational information, display areas are made available
as space permits for community organizations to disseminate information
about regional events and activities. Items that may be distributed include
flyers, posters, brochures, newsletters, newspapers and pamphlets that
provide information primarily about non-profit governmental, cultural,
educational,
recreational and civic organizations and events.
The following materials will not be posted:
- Personal advertisements, including lost and found postings
- Commercial advertisements for for-profit companies, organizations and individuals,
including employee and organization recruitment
- Items promoting a political point of view
- Items promoting a religious point of view
- Materials with explicit wording or pictures.
In questionable cases, the judgment of the Library Director is final.
All items for posting or distribution must be presented to the library staff for approval. Proof of IRS nonprofit status may be
required before posting/distribution. Staff will date and place items in the appropriate section of the library. Library staff will post/distribute
materials up to one month prior to the event, and will remove it
in a timely manner. Library staff cannot save or return
materials that have been removed. Items left without approval may be discarded.
Distribution or posting of items by the library does not indicate endorsement of the
issues, events, or services promoted by those materials.
Solicitation, petitioning or distribution of literature or pamphlets by members of
the public is strictly prohibited in the library or on library grounds.
Posting Procedures
Bulletin Board
Posters and flyers displayed on the bulletin board generally
may be no larger than 8.5 inches x 14 inches. Larger items may be accepted if space permits.
Children's/Teen Areas
Parents or guardians are ultimately responsible for what their children read. Information of interest from primarily non-profit
organizations is disseminated in the Children's and Teen areas of the
Headquarters facility and at branch locations. Customers must have information
approved by an appropriate library staff member.
County Corner (Headquarters
Location)
The County Corner is available primarily to Burlington County agencies to post flyers, pamphlets and brochures that provide
information about their services and events. Agencies located outside
of the county may distribute items when space permits. Priority will
be given to Burlington County agencies, materials of a timely nature, and organizations that have not recently distributed materials.
Items will be distributed as long as they are valid. Items for distribution
must be approved by the County Corner Coordinator.
Agencies are primarily responsible for dropping off materials to the library
for distribution and are notified by a yearly mailing. Agencies may provide bulk quantities of items, up to 150 items per
agency. The library is not responsible for reproducing copies for distribution.
Agencies must register with the library before posting materials. Registration forms may be obtained at the
Reference Desk of the Burlington County Library Headquarters location.
The County Corner Coordinator will notify customers of acceptance within five business days.
