Membership & Borrowing

Library Cards

QuickfactsYou are eligible for library membership if you pay the Burlington County dedicated library tax. Active duty military personnel stationed at Fort Dix or McGuire Air Force Base and their families are also eligible for library membership. To join the library, bring photo identification to verify your name and current address, and military identification if applicable, to the circulation desk at the Burlington County Library, its Branches, the Bookmobile or any BLINC location.

Cards are issued and borrowing privileges are extended at the time of your application.

Memberships for Non-residents

Full Service Card

Non-residents* may join the County Library by paying an annual $50 family fee for full library privileges. To obtain this level of membership, bring to your area library a valid ID with current address.

PC Access Card

The PC Access card allows non-residents* to use library PCs and e-resources without buying a full-service library card. To obtain this level of membership, bring to your area library a valid ID with current address. Upon getting the card, the first 30 days are free. After this period, for an annual $30 fee, you and your family will have full use of all library PCs plus valuable online databases accessible from your home PC.

*Non-residents are those who do not pay the Burlington County dedicated library tax, including those who live in Moorestown, Mt. Laurel, Willingboro, or outside of Burlington County. Residents of Ocean & Atlantic Counties are entitled to a free full-service card if they already have a card from their own county library.

Get a Library Card Online

Get a Library Card OnlineGet a Library Card Online is a project involving 15 public libraries and library systems statewide, including the Burlington County Library System. Use this service to identify your local library and apply for a library card on the web. After completing the online form, you will be emailed a temporary number, which you can use immediately to access the online resources of JerseyClicks and Q&A NJ.

You will receive your new BCLS library card in the mail within a few days. Upon receipt, this new card can be used to access the library's online databases, download center or to place holds on materials in our general catalog.

When you first present your new library card at any library location, you will be asked to provide photo identification to verify your name and current address, and/or military identification if applicable.

Checking Out Materials

  • You must present your own card to check out or renew materials. Family members cannot pick up requested items for other family members unless they present the requestor's library card or unless the requestor has previously granted permission for this and a message on the requestor's library record indicates this.
  • You are responsible for all materials checked out on your card.
  • Parents are responsible for all use of the library by minor children.
  • Reference and genealogy materials, newspapers, and some magazines are designated for use in the library only and may not be checked out.
  • Please reference your checkout receipt to keep track of item due dates. You may also check your account online for due dates.

Renewals

If they are not on reserve, items may be renewed in person or by telephone, either directly or by using Telecirc. The telephone number for automatic renewals is 609-267-6703. You can also renew from your home or office computer through iPac, the online library catalog.

Returning Items

Borrowed material can be returned to any Burlington County Library System location including the Bookmobile or any BLINC member location. This convenience is supported by our daily delivery system. Because some local libraries are not part of BLINC, you risk incurring overdue charges if you return items to libraries that are not BLINC members.

Book returns are placed at each library location for the convenience of customers when libraries are closed. Videos, cassettes, CDs, DVDs and records should not be placed in the book returns due to the probability of damage. A video return, open 24 hours a day, is available at the Headquarters and Pemberton locations. A book return is available at the Marlton Shop Rite for Evesham patrons.

Reserves and Holds

Circulating materials may be reserved in person, by telephone or on the web. Up to 35 requests may be placed on hold. Customers will be notified when requested material is available.

Inter-Library Loan

Items not owned by BCLS may be requested through inter-library loan (ILL). There is a $1.00 handling fee for each item borrowed. Please enter your request for material on the form provided.

Reciprocal Borrowing Agreements

The Burlington County library currently has reciprocal borrowing agreements with Atlantic and Ocean County libraries. Library cardholders of these counties are eligible to apply for Burlington County library cards as long as the reciprocal borrowing agreements are in effect. Those applying, in all cases, need to present their home library card at the time of application.

Likewise, Burlington County Library cardholders are eligible to apply for Atlantic and Ocean County Library cards. BCLS cardholders must present their cards when applying for membership at these other libraries.
